World IA Day is about bringing the information architecture community together. We're fostering links within the local communities and on a global scale. We're sharing information, ideas, and research. And we're doing it through unconventional, exciting, and engaging IA events this February.

On February 15, 2014 you can learn from world-class IA minds, network with your peers, showcase new ideas, and attend events tailored specifically to your community. We hope you'll join us at an event near you!

This 3rd annual World IA Day is run entirely by volunteers and funded entirely by gracious sponsors.

EVENT HISTORY

World IA Day began in 2012 to celebrate the anniversary of Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, a seminal IA book by Peter Morville and Lou Rosenfeld. Commonly referred to as The Polar Bear Book, its release in 1998 signaled the beginning of the IA field. 2014 is the 3rd year for this event and marks the polar bear book's 16th anniversary by having 16 host cities.

IA discussions, happening on the same day across the world leads to Local Connects and Global Impact.

User experience design is a broad concept with a vast range of applications, especially if we use Steve Jobs’ definition of “design” as encompassing how something works in addition to how something looks. As taught by Dan Klyn and Shari Thurow, architecture is the “what” to design’s “how,” and information architecture is the discipline and set of practices for specifying the “what” of products and services that’re made of information.

On December 2, spend an hour digging into the core concepts of information architecture and looking at cases in point to illustrate the ways that IA is applied in the context of the thing that people do on the Internet: search.

World Usability Day is for all the people who've ever asked questions like these.
This annual worldwide series of events, organized by the User Experience Professionals Association, promotes awareness of the benefits of usability engineering and user-centered design, Earth Day style.

The theme for the next World Usability Day is Healthcare: Collaborating for Better Systems. The importance of user-centered design in healthcare is truly life or death. Whether it's new medical devices or technologies; drug research, approval or delivery; patient forms or medical record sharing; emergency disaster planning or increasing the functionality of hospitals and everyday healthcare delivery, everyone is affected in some way by the intersection of usability in healthcare. There are many commonalities, yet each region of the world faces its own set of unique challenges. We believe that focusing World Usability Day 2013 on healthcare will create a stronger awareness of these issues and lead to initiative that have long term impact on the quality of everyone's life. It will be held on Thursday, 14 November 2013.

Usability testing can find problems with your site or product. But the method is not well suited for crafting a unified user experience, planning for tomorrow’s user experience or creating delight, loyalty and stickiness.

To create user experiences, you have to take a holistic – and strategic – approach. Successful strategic user experience is not just about delivering a design or testing the user interface. It’s about aligning the organization to measure and improve the user experience. And, if you’re doing your job right, your changing your organization. While you’re at it, give yourself a new job: change agent.
